Theology Program

Myanmar Institute of Theology (formerly Burma Divinity School-BDS) was opened in June 1927, and shortly thereafter became affiliated with the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary of Chicago, Illinois,USA. This affiliation continued until the time of the Second World War, making it possible for all graduates who had satisfactorily completed their courses of study be granted a B.th degree. Beginning with the year 1955, BDS has similar affiliation with Central Baptist Seminary, Kansas City, MO, USA. This affiliation continued until 1960, after with the seminary granted degrees on its own.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM

With the help of information technology, formal education system around the world is changing rapidly, and so is the theological education, While many international students are able to pursue doctoral studies in theological fields in other countries, theological faculties in our country are still facing not only with financial difficulty but also with language and cultural barriers in studying abroad. While many qualified Myanmar students have abilities to get enrolled in doctorate program abroad, circumstances have not allowed them to pursue it. To facilitate the students who want to pursue doctorate degree in theological studies in our country, the Myanmar Institute of Theology will inaugurate the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree program in October 2014.

DOCTOR OF MINISTRY PROGRAM

Doctor of Ministry Program is a joint degree program of MIT with the Centre Baptist Theological Seminary,Kansas City ,USA,since 2010. The Doctor of Ministry program is a graduate level study, requiring 30 credits: 24 credits of course work with comprehensive examination and 6 credits for dissertation. The program is a three-year course and can be extended up to five years.

MASTER OF THEOLOGY PROGRAM

M.Th degree program is designed for those pursuing career goals of theological research, teaching and professional competence in a focus area of Christian theology. It is also intended for those who wish to engage in disciplined study and academic growth in the theological field at a level above M.Div and its equivalent program.

MASTER OF DIVINITY PROGRAM

The Myanmar Institute of Theology offers the Master of Divinity degree for students who wish to deepen their preparation for ministry beyond B.Th course or those who desire graduate study in theology in preparation for the educational and pastoral ministry and other forms of church vocation.

MASTER OF MINISTRY PROGRAM

The Master of Ministry Program is an advanced degree for full time ministers, which integrates theological study with the development of pastoral skills to enhance the practice of ministry.

MASTER OF THEOLOGICAL LIBRARIANSHIP

The Master of Theological Librarianship program is designed for people who wish to become qualified theological librarians.

MASTER OF ARTS IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES

The program of Studies for the degree of Arts in Christian Studies is a weekend program specially designs for peoples with Full-time jobs who desire to be equipped for work in the church and society. It is oriented not for teaching ministry but for integration of theological understanding in the context of continuing ministry in the church and society.

LIBERAL ARTS PROGRAM

The purpose of the Institute is seeking to provide leaders capable of bringing others to the saving knowledge of God in Jesus Christ, and prepares students for Christian living and achievement on the highest level, furnishing adequate theological education, which will equip people for Christian service.
In response to the current education crisis of the country, we planned to offer a four year B.A. Religious Studies degree program with a Liberal Arts curriculum. This degree program was officially accepted by MIT Board of Trustees on December 14, 1999.The program was inaugurated in October 2000 introducing BARS degree curriculum. In 2010, the name was changed to Liberal Arts Program (LAP) because it tended to focus on offering Master courses.
The Myanmar Institute of Theology is accredited for the offering of its degree programs by the Association of Theological Education in South East Asia (ATESEA).

MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERFAITH STUDIES And DIALOGUE(MAID)

In response to the current needs and challenges of the situation, the Master of Arts in Interfaith Studies and Dialogue (MAID) will be offered starting from 2014 by the Myanmar Institute of Theology (MIT) under the umbrella of Liberal Arts Program and managed by the Judson Research Center.

MASTER OF ARTS IN PEACE STUDIES

It is our pleasure to announce that MIT has established Master of Arts in Peace Studies Program and the Program will be inaugurated on October 19,2014 at MIT.
